Give Time

If you have ever thought you would like to help a child
through a difficult time or get a teenager back on the right
path, Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court may be
the right place for you.

Volunteer candidates are asked to complete an application, provide
references, submit to a comprehensive background check and attend
required trainings.

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)

CASA needs caring and compassionate adults to advocate for victims
of child abuse or neglect. Help ensure that no child falls between the
cracks in the child welfare system. Individuals must be at least 21 and
undergo an extensive background check. One year commitment is
required. Comprehensive training and supervision is provided.

Court Services Associate

Court Services Associates assist probation and parole officers in all
aspects of work related to juvenile offenders. Candidates must be at
least 18 years old preferably with or pursuing a human services degree.
This position can also serve as an internship.

Office Associate

Office Associates provide general administrative support to staff.
Candidates should be proficient with Microsoft Office and have good
written and verbal communications skills. This position requires a
minimum commitment of three-months.

TMC Driver

The Transportation for Motivating Change (TMC) driver transports
family members of incarcerated children to Virginia juvenile correctional
centers for visitation. Candidates must be at least 23 years old with
an excellent DMV record.

Life Coaches

The Community Service Program (CSP) needs volunteer life coaches
for young people ordered by a judge to perform community service.
Help a young person who has made a poor choice get back on the right
track by teaching and modeling accountability. Individuals must be at
least 21 and undergo an extensive background check. One year
commitment is required. Comprehensive training and supervision
is provided.
